Difference between M sand and P sand
P Sand (also called Plastering sand) is a variety of M Sand (manufactured sand). In general, fine-grain M sand is categorized as P sand. This P sand is most suitable for plastering, creating renders, and tilling purposes. It gives a smooth and even finish to the outer surfaces. It is also used to fill cracks and jointings of pavements.
Whereas coarse and medium grain M Sand is used to give strength to the concrete, it is used for building foundations. It is also used for other masonry and brick or block laying works.
As per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) IS 383, the size of M Sand can lie between 0 to 4.75mm. But as per IS 1542, P Sand size is 0 to 2.36mm.
